Three Weeks In

Happy Diwali!

Hello everyone! I am still doing fine. I am settled in very well. Which I good. I am not shocked by everything anymore and I am getting into some kind of routine.

But since I last posted the monsoons hit really hard for about three days, but the Diwali weekend was actually perfect, weather-wise. I went to a couple parties and I wrote a test for my fifth standard class, which I was supposed to give today, but I didn't because I stayed home. I was not feeling that well.

I will write a better post in the next few days. I still miss everyone.

Love,
Anna

P.S.

P.S. I swam in the bay of Bengal.

Still Here

I am still here.

In India. I have just had a lot of trouble getting internet.

I had a really rough start to my week. The first day here, the maid at my homestay, Chandra, ruined three white shirts by washing them with a green skirt that belonged to my roommate Jasper. The teaching is also quite hard, but I got used to it.

I am now really begining to enjoy myself. We, the other GapGuru people, went down to this little fishing village on Sunday and spent a wonderful day at this resort. For about four dollars we could relax at the pool and at a private beach all day. My food did have a cockroach in it tho....

My roommate's name is Jasper. She is cool. Vicki and Tom and Grant are the other volunteers and they are also cool. Chris, our coordinator, took us (Jas, Vicki and me) on a tour of the city on Saturday. That was really fun. After Jas went to work, Chris, Vicki and I went to the beach and got involved in a huge political rally. It was very overwhelming. We also saw a toenail or something of Saint Thomas. He died here in Chennai.

The night life is good, but so far pricey here. Tonight I am probably going for a pizza night with the other volunteers from my school, Little Lambs. They are all from Sweden. I am the only staff memeber whose first language is English.

I can't describe how different it is here. It is just not like anything I have ever seen. Everything is just different. I can't put it better than that. I may try again later.

Well, I miss everyone and now that I have a good internet spot close to my house, these posts will be more frequent.

Love to all,
Anna

Hong Kong Fabulous

Well hello everyone back home!

I am I Hong Kong. I got in yesterday morning with no hiccups at all. Which is unusual for me. I am staying with nice Scottish family. They are lawyers so are both out at work. Their daughter is at school and the maid is at a dentist appointment so I am all alone.

Yesterday the maid, Annabell, and I went all over the main city. The family lives at the top of the island in a nice area called the peak. We went up to this observation tower, which was really, really cool. You could see really far, even through the smog. We then went into the downtown where all the banks and stuff are and had lunch. I was pretty tired then so we went back to the apartment where I slept for four hours. Oops. I then went down town for dinner with the whole fam to the American Peking restaurant, which is not what it sounds like. It was really good Chinese place.

Everyone is surprisingly friendly and helpful. It is a really clean, safe city and I feel very at home. The weather is consitantly in the upper seventies lower eighties, twenty four hours a day.

I will put some photos up on facebook and then try to figure out how to put photos up on here.

I am heading off to Kow Loon in a bit and then a wonder around some historic market place.

Love and kisses and I miss everyone already!!!

Love,
Anna
