I Just Noticed All the Titles of My Posts Are Really Depressing or Scary So This One Isn't

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!! - I had it off due to the rains, so it was like being at home except better because I had Wednesday off as well. But we were pretty locked in. The rains were really, really awful; ankle and calf deep water in places that I had to go, even deeper in other parts of the city. Some people have even died!

After three days cooped up in our room in Chennai, I went down to visit Lydia and Vicki in Mahabs. It is Vicki's last week in India, which means that only one more person has to leave before all my original friends are gone. But I am making a lot of new ones.

Since the water snakes have invaded Little Lambs School, we had to hold classes for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th standards and the seniors at the volunteer flat. It was packed with about 60 students. It's so amazing that these kids want to learn so badly that they are willing to wade through waist deep water to a place that comfortably can fit thirty people. Nothing like that would happen in America. I don't think. I wouldn't have done it!

We should be back in our building by Wednesday. Better safe than sorry with water snakes.

The count down for my parents arrival has begun! I am very excited. Mum will be here in 13 days!

Love to all.

Water snakes???? Yiiikes! What do they do to get rid of them? Do the snakes just disappear when the water level goes down? Man, what an exciting time you are having! What's the volunteer's flat? And how did the kids get there? As you can see, I have no "schema" on this one, though I remember wading in waist high water in the summer in Rio when the streets flooded.

I'm so glad you are doing well and making new friends... Anything special you would like from here that I can ask your mom to take?

Love,
Marcos

Anna! Juliet told me about your blog and its so nice reading it and hearing whats going on with you in India...
However, I didn't see an option anywhere to follow your blog, is it disabled? Or am I just an idiot and not seeing it?
I can't believe the weather there is that horrible and the willingness these kiddos have to learn is so amazing.
Well stay safe and I hope you're enjoying your time there!

To Marcos:
We just call off school when the water snakes are about. Or we just don't get rid of them. People just learn to live with stuff like that.

The volunteer flat is where the swedes live. I will be moving there soon, and paying a lot less rent!

I never was in water to my waist (thank goodness) but I did wade up to my ankles to get meds for my roommate. And then I saw the power lines just dangling in the water.......... so I thought twice!

I'm sorry I haven't been commenting back. I didn't know you could comment!

To Candice:

It's nice to know that you are reading this. I miss you a lot. The weather is a lot better now. We are in mid-cold-horrible winter. So the temperature is about 75 degrees! HAHAHA! YOU ARE SNOWED IN!!!!
